Monmouth County Republican Talking Points for the Day

10/31/2006

Fellow Republicans:

Since our campaign launched back in the middle of August, Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas, and Anna Little have proposed thoughtful initiatives to reduce spending, fight against higher taxes, share services, and called for ethical reforms to fundraising and campaign spending.

The democrats have said nothing. They’ve called for a study. We do that already. They’ve called for reform. We are reformers with results, not destructive change-agents with no plan. The democrats have called to raise your taxes on spending for Asbury Park. We’ve called for a hiring freeze to keep your taxes flat.

The democrats have no plan. When you ask your neighbors who they are voting for in county government, if they don’t say our team, ask them why. Do they know what the democrats intend to do? I do. They will raise spending and taxes. They will turn Monmouth into Camden.

Why am I so sure? Well, look at their record. The rare time that one of our opponents was given the chance to work in municipal government, taxes and spending were raised by approximately 29%! The average county tax rate could soar, from a low .266 per $100 to over .30!

Don’t allow this to happen to our county budget. Monmouth County is a great place to live and work thanks to lower taxes, outstanding parks, great educational opportunities and good government. Republican government. There is a difference. When you read this, open your window and shout, “I’m proud to be a Monmouth County Republican!” I’ll be standing by the door, listening for your voice.

Vote for Monmouth County. Vote Republican.

Defining Wheeling to suit their purpose

A "Wireside Chat" from Chairman Adam Puharic
10/29/2006

Dear fellow Republicans:

This week, the Democrats have attempted to redefine “wheeling” to benefit their interests and provide cover so they can continue their questionable fundraising practices. The practice of outside county party organizations and interest groups sending large sums of diverted contributions to impact a local race, known as “wheeling,” is one of the most controversial issues in New Jersey politics today.

Last year, Monmouth Democrats wheeled in over $200,000 between October 26 and Election Day. They received over $87,000 from labor unions outside of the county. The New York Council of Carpenters kicked in $25,000 and Camden County Democrat boss Joe Roberts rolled in $37,000.

I find it hard to believe that New York labor bosses and political bosses from Camden County have a grassroots interest in Monmouth County. In a recent letter to the editor, the Democrat treasurer charged with overseeing their party’s finances defended wheeling and attempted to belittle the serious negative impact it has on elections.

They are attempting to mislead voters into thinking what they are about to do again is acceptable. The simple fact is they cannot escape from what they have done in the past. Democrats took hundreds of thousands of dollars from labor unions, special interest and Camden County party bosses, not grassroots contributions from family members.

The precedent has been set and I expect them to do it again this year. Why else would their own bookkeeper look to defend this practice with only days to go in the campaign? The proof is in the finance reports. Instead of defending this, they should join our calls to ban it and pledge not to do it again.

P.S. With nine days left until the election victories of Tom Kean for US Senate, Leigh Ann Bellew and Joe Sinagra for Congress, Rosemarie Peters for Surrogate, Andrew Lucas and Anna Little for Freeholder, and all of our outstanding Republican candidates – once again county spending, legal fees, and other non-starters are being brought into question by the press. I find the timing of the recent articles, so close to the election, interesting to say the least.

Yes, it is true that our Freeholders must continue to find ways to cut spending and keep property taxes low. But you must ask this question: why are New Jersey residents (67,000 last year) leaving New Jersey, while in contrast Monmouth County continues to grow?

The answer is lower taxes, outstanding services, great parks, great educational opportunities like the nationally-recognized Brookdale Community College, and great property values. It takes economic opportunity, entrepreneurial spirit, lower taxes, and good government to grow an economy. The good government is being provided by the all-Republican Board of Chosen Freeholders. Our Surrogate Marie Muhler has lead her office to efficiencies and effectiveness that are recognized by all sides of the political aisle. Our County Clerk Claire French has transformed the office into a revenue-generating laboratory of innovation and accessibility. Our Sheriff Joe Oxley is the National Sheriff’s Association Sheriff of the Year.

Monmouth County is best in the business because of Republican leadership and Republican values. Never forget this.

Talk to Your Neighbors This Weekend

A "Wireside Chat" from Chairman Adam Puharic
10/20/2006

Fellow Republicans:
You can help Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas and Anna Little win on November 7th – and you can start the victory parade this weekend! In your travels, at sporting events, shopping, or walking your neighborhood, talk to your neighbors about the real reason to vote for Monmouth County Republicans this year: we have a plan for cutting spending, fighting the rise in property taxes, and maintaining the outstanding parks, services, and schools like Brookdale Community College.

When you tell your neighbors about Peters, Lucas and Little, tell them specifics about our plan:

  • Right-size the county government workforce with a hiring freeze, and through natural attrition that wont require layoffs.
  • Create an office of shared services, and work to eliminate the duplication of services in an effort to reduce spending and provide property tax relief for Monmouth County families.
  • Call on Trenton Democrat leaders to use Monmouth County as an example in their effort to reduce the cost of retirement and health benefits to taxpayers. Payments to Trenton have doubled, while Monmouth County benefits reform has saved taxpayers thousands.
  • Reform campaign fundraisng with voluntary spending caps, and a call to end “wheeling” of hard-to-track campaign contributions from out-of-county power brokers.

The Democrats? They want to issue a study – so they can learn how county government works. Not on taxpayer time. The choice is clear. Please tell your neighbors this weekend.
Adam

Challenger School on Oct 28 and 30

A "Wireside Chat" from Chairman Adam Puharic
10/18/2006

Fellow Republicans:
From this point forward, I will be communicating with you daily with a recommended activity. Tonight, I want you to sign up as a challenger in your home town. Challengers can be the winning difference for Republicans, helping us identify when Republicans come to the polls, and notifying headquarters to call those who haven’t. Please attend a special training session:

Interested In Being An Election Day Challenger?

If you’re interested in serving as a Republican challenger on election day, please contact your municipal chair or the Monmouth County Republican Organization prior to next Tuesday, October 24, which is the deadline for filing to become a Republican challenger.

What Do Election Day Challengers Do?

As a challenger, you have the right to observe and challenge the conduct of the election at your assigned polling location. It is your responsibility to ensure that every legal voter is able to vote without being subject to undue influence, trickery or harassment. Part of ensuring that every legal voter has the right to vote, requires ensuring that their vote is not diminished by those who do not have a right to vote, or by those who interfere with the voting process.

When Can I Learn More About Being An Election Day Challenger?

The Monmouth County Republican Organization will be holding two election day challenger training sessions conducted by former New Jersey Republican State Committee Executive Director and election lawyer, Brian Nelson, who has written the Republican challenger guide for every general election in New Jersey since 2003. These challenger training sessions will be held at the following locations and times:

Saturday, October 28, 2006 - 11:00 a.m.
Deal Firehouse
110 Brighton Avenue
Deal, NJ 07723

Monday, October 30, 2006 – 7:00 p.m.

Support YOUR Candidates

A "Wireside Chat" from Chairman Adam Puharic
10/12/2006

Fellow Republicans:

As many of you are aware, our outstanding candidates Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas and Anna Little are the first Monmouth County Republican slate chosen exclusively by a convention process. The County Committee was given a voice, and with it they chose our three fine candidates.

I expect more from you than to show up once a year and vote at a convention.
If you are county committee, or if you would please forward this email to all the county committee members you know, I am asking you to take the following three actions:

1. Donate your money today. Please send a check for $100, $50, $25 or another amount to the Monmouth County Republican Committee, PO Box 808, Freehold NJ 07728. Do it today. If you were willing to vote for them in convention, put your money where your mouth is. It would be a shame to bring forward great candidates, and not have the money to win. If every county committee member would give just $25 dollars, the candidates could purchase one more county-wide mailer.

2. Volunteer at one of our phone banks. Heather Bachman has called every county committee member. Out of 600, less than 50 have offered to volunteer. You should do better than this. You were chosen by your district to be a party leader. Act like one.

3. Challenge on election day. Creditentials are due in a short while. Don’t make your municipal chair chase after you. Call them.

This election will not be decided by the Asbury Park Press. The Democrats can’t compete if you participate. You have 25 days to make this happen. To date, the volunteers at the headquarters have either been there for decades, or showed up this year for the first time. The county committee seems to be missing. Rosemarie, Andrew and Anna are waiting for your help.(732) 431-6664

Stick Together

A "Wireside Chat" from Chairman Adam Puharic
10/8/2006

I heard a great story from Lake Como Mayor Larry Chiaravallo. I thought tonight would be the right time to share it with all of you:

There was a father with eight sons who were always fighting each other. He wanted to teach them a lesson. One day, he called them together. First, he handed eight sticks – one – to each of them. He instructed them to break the sticks over their knee. They promptly complied. Then he handed them eight sticks bound tightly together. “Break them now,” he requested. They could not. “Do you know what the lesson is?” he asked.

Do you?

Today’s Asbury Park Press articles, printed 31 days before the election, and with no “news” that prompted their creation, remind me of this story. If we trust in Republican government, and I do, look for the Freeholders to respond to this in a fair environment. If we trust in our candidates, and the promise of this convention system that brought new faces and fresh ideas forward – stick together. You have 31 days to elect Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas and Freeholder Anna Little. If you are waiting for the Chairman to do this, we will not be successful. If you are waiting for the candidates to do this, they will have a long road ahead of them.

We have one month. The Monmouth County Republican Party is a winning organization, not because of a chairman or any one of our outstanding candidates. We are a winning organization because people like you volunteer, year in and year out, to bring our candidates to victory.

Are you a stick or a bundle?

Monmouth County Republican Checklist for the Week

10/5/2006

Hello Fellow Republicans!

With less than 30 DAYS to go, we need your help to support our candidates, Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas and Freeholder Anna Little. Now more than ever we need your help. Remember you can always contact me at 732-431-6664 or heatherbgop@gmail.com for information. Now, here is the week's rundown of how you can help your fellow Republicans:

GET OUT THE VOTE MEETING: Save the Date. October 12, 7pm at Brookdale Community College. We'll host a special Get-out-the-vote meeting to bring every town's Republican campaign together. We will coordinate efforts such as door knocking, challenger phone banks, etc. If we stick together, there's nothing to stop us.

Republicans Wanted: The MCRC needs you! We have a lot of objectives, from letter stuffing to phone calls, that we need help in achieving. Remember, we have both an hourly system and a take home work system available for volunteers, especially for the final 2 weeks of the campaign.

Lawn Sign blitz: On Saturday, October 7, we’re asking all our volunteers to put out every lawn sign across Monmouth County. A special thank you to all who participated in sign Saturdays. Now that we have this advertising ready, we need your input and advice on how to best place the signs we have to promote the party. With your help, we can show Democrats that this November will be a red victory!

We need your voices to be heard!: Recently, we have expanded and improved our grassroots programs to offer new ways for you to use your voice for us:

E-Mail Phone Lists: With your permission, we are now able to email phone lists and scripts to you so you can support the Republican Committee on your own time. Perfect for the committee member or volunteer with the busy schedule! We can even narrow your lists to your town or district.

Dear Editor: We have recently started a team of volunteers who will be writing and sending letters to the editor highlighting our candidates, our issues, and the committee's recent advances to improving the campaign process. With so much to cover, we are always looking for new members to this highly needed objective.

Phone Bank: When I first started at the MCRC, I initiated a new hourly program which would assist volunteers in setting their time in the office as if they do for work.

VOTE BY MAIL TODAY – Guaranteed votes for our Republican candidates!

A "Wireside Chat" from Chairman Adam Puharic
10/1/2006

The November 7 elections will be some of the toughest, hardest fought in our nation’s history, and there is nothing more important you can do to help maintain Republican majorities than make sure that you and those that support Republican candidates cast their vote.

In New Jersey, you don’t need a reason to request an absentee ballot. Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas, Freeholder Andrew Lucas (sic.), and all of our Republican candidates need your help. If you vote by mail today, we can concentrate on those undecided voters so crucial to our victory.

If you are a registered voter, you may be eligible to cast your vote early by mail or in person.

Click here to request an absentee ballot today! http://www.gop.com/VoteEarly/

Please fill out the form in the web page, and we will provide you with your local election official’s information, their official ballot request form and the early voting requirements for your state. Simply mail in your request or go to your early voting office and cast your vote early for Republican Candidates! If you are not registered to vote please click here. If you are a member of the military abroad, click here for more information.

Please pass this email along to all the good Republicans you know.
