I want to thank Millstone, Freehold, and the other municipalities who have taken the lead with this team approach to reaching our collective goal for a successful finance gala. I hope your town will help Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas and Freeholder Anna Little achieve victory in November by supporting the Finance Gala on August 8.

Your role in this fall's election

A "Wireside Chat" from Chairman Adam Puharic
Dear fellow Republican:
Oftentimes, we sit back and watch elections, frustrated and helpless. We read articles in the paper, hear accusations and innuendo, and we count the lawn signs of the other side. This year, I am respectfully requesting that you not sit back and be a passive observer. If you’d like to keep Monmouth County a Republican County, I am asking you to join in this fight.
I wanted to take a moment and offer some actions you could take to help Tom Kean become our next U.S. Senator. You can help Leigh Ann Bellew and Joe Sinagra take back our congressional seats from the Democrats. The power is in your hands to elect Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas, and Freeholder Anna Little, so that Republicans can continue to make Monmouth County a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
Here’s how you can help:
1. Support the Finance Gala. On August 8th, we’ll host our 51st Annual Monmouth County Republican Finance Gala at the Navesink Country Club. Senator Tom Gagliano is doing an outstanding job as our Gala Chair. We’ve lowered the ticket price to $300 so that more of our grassroots volunteers can participate. Please be one of them.
2. Volunteer at the Monmouth County Fair. Starting on Wednesday, July 26, Republicans are asked to come out in force, promote our candidates, and show great spirit. I’m looking forward to seeing the new booth – I’ve seen the plans and they look great! Be sure to thank all of the good Republicans who dedicated time to building and decorating.
3. Support your municipal chair and local candidates. The best way to win up and down the ticket is to make sure all 53 municipalities have strong Republican leaders in government. Volunteer for your local campaign. Proudly display your lawn sign. Signs don’t vote, but property owners do. Every property owner should vote Republican. Please be supportive of all of our municipal chairs. They have thankless jobs. I remember as a municipal chair, everyone’s ideas were better than mine, but most people wouldn’t stick around to implement them. Offer your local chair a hand. I’m sure they would be grateful.
4. Walk your district. Have you ever approached a neighbor and asked them to vote Republican? Do it this year. Your taxes were raised by Democrats in Trenton. Their spending is increasing even more. Every day 115 people – mostly tax-hating Republican voters – leave New Jersey for opportunity and freedom in the south and west. This has to stop. It stops when we hold the line on spending, take back Trenton, and put accountable Republicans in Washington.
5. Call headquarters. When I was first elected, I asked for your time in volunteering at Republican headquarters. We are up and running now, and ready to accept your volunteer service. I am proud to announce that Heather Bachman has joined us as Administrative Manager. Heather is excited at this opportunity, and full of energy and dedication to our party. Join me in welcoming her to our team.
6. Special thanks to Joe Coletti, the Young Republicans, the Aberdeen Republicans, and all of the volunteers who made over 1,000 phone calls in support of our finance gala this week. We owe them a debt of gratitude for giving back to our party!
Once again thanks for giving me the opportunity to serve you. I hope to see you soon. This fight is yours.

A Selfless Act of Service

This week's "Wireside Chat" from Chairman Adam Puharic

This week, I wanted to share with you the good work being done by fellow Republicans in preparation for the 51st Annual Finance Gala. This important fundraising event will take place on August 8, at the Navesink Country Club. Tickets are available for $300 and we are offering a special sponsorship opportunity called the Monmouth Republican Leadership Council at $500. Our success in November will hinge on a good turnout, so I am respectfully requesting each of you to be an active participant in this fundraising effort.
Our success will not be because of me, or our outstanding Finance Gala Chairman Tom Gagliano. It is the members of our committee, and their volunteering and follow up, who will help lead us to victory against the Democrats. By serving on this committee, each of them has taken on the shared responsibility to reach the goal of over 450 tickets sold! So when you see them, please thank them for their service to the Republican Party.
I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly recognize them:

A call for Volunteers: Let’s meet at the Monmouth County Fair!

Dear Fellow Republicans:
The 32nd Annual Monmouth County Fair is set to kickoff next week, and run from July 26 through 30. It has been a great Republican tradition to man (or woman) the fair booth, show our spirit, and kick off the summer campaign season in great GOP style. In fact, the Monmouth County Fair was one of the first activities I ever volunteered for, as a member of the Young Republicans. This year is no exception. I am calling on each of you to offer some time in service to our party, by helping us to staff the volunteer booth and cheer Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas, and Freeholder Anna Little on.
If you are interested in participating, our great Republicans from Howell, led by their Chair Norine Kelly, are collecting names and helping us to organize our fair booth. Please contact her at (732) 682-5779 or call Republican headquarters at (732) 431-6664. Young Republicans are asked to work with their Chair, Heath Leskin, and help us to man every hour we can.
Special thanks to Frida and John McLaughlin, as well as Gerri Popkin, Norine Kelly, Michael Borg and all of the selfless volunteers who helped put this year’s fair booth together!
I hope to see you there!

The Shutdown of New Jersey's Government was a Failure of Politics over Public Service

A "Wireside Chat" with Chairman Adam Puharic

Special thanks to our Finance Gala Chairman Tom Gagliano, and all of the hard working Republicans who attended the committee meeting last night. This party is grateful for your service. Please join us for our next meeting, Weds. July 19th, at 6pm. NEW LOCATION: The upstairs anchor room of Hook Line & Sinker, River Road, Rumson. Call (732) 431-6664 for more information.
Now I wanted to share a recent column I wrote on Corzine’s budget fiasco.

The Shutdown of New Jersey’s Government was a Failure of Politics over Public Service

The headlines of this past Thursday told about New Jersey lawmakers reaching a “deal” or a “compromise” on the stalled and bloated budget. But those terms are not appropriate. This was a sham and a travesty. Democrats in Trenton shut down our government to fight over which of our taxes they would raise.
As the new Monmouth County Republican Chairman, I am stunned by the uniform response by fellow residents of every political stripe. Outrage. May I remind the Democrats in the legislature that they were elected to represent the best interests of the people, not to play a child’s game of “winner-take-all.” Was it ever in our interests to shut down revenue generating casinos and parks?
With all of the political grandstanding and rhetorical ramblings of this past week, the Governor and Democratically-controlled legislature are hoping you the taxpayer won’t notice that 800 pound elephant in the room – that cutting spending is the real answer.
They are wrong. Monmouth County residents know a bad deal when they see it. This is the biggest budget in state history and New Jerseyans will be paying more in taxes than ever before. Governor Corzine is not balancing a budget, he is increasing spending by almost $3 billion, and paying for it with over $2 billion in new taxes. This includes $1.1 billion in a sales tax hike that impacts lower income workers most severely. Politicians laugh off the estimated $275 dollars this will cost every family, but for my household this represents one week’s worth of groceries. Clearly, our children deserve those resources more than the dual pensioned political class in Trenton.
We have been told to accept this tax hike because it will lower our property taxes. I thought the millionaires tax enacted by Democrats would do that. Instead, every day 115 New Jerseyans leave our state for the lower taxes and sensible governing of the so-called “red states.” What the Governor and his legislature fail to realize is that with this “freedom flight,” New Jersey continues to lose ground on economic opportunity, new job creation, and improving standards of living. There is a truism that Democrats in Trenton don’t want to tell you. New taxes never created a job, never helped a young family to invest, or save for their children’s college.
There was another way, a better way. The Assembly Republicans, with leadership from many of our outstanding Monmouth County legislators proposed $2.2 billion in real budget cuts. They made the hard decisions that we elected them to make, including calling for an end to dual pensions, and deep cuts from the over 1,200 politically appointed positions in non-essential roles. Hats off to Senators Palaia and Kyrillos, and Assemblymen and women Steve Corodemus, Sean Kean, Sam Thompson, Amy Handlin, and Jennifer Beck for voting NO on this abomination of a budget bill.
At the county level, our Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders responded to New Jersey’s budgeting woes by keeping the taxpayer squarely in their priorities, and holding the line on spending. The Freeholders slashed a proposed $18 million increase in county spending by more than half without sacrificing jobs or services. County government is being streamlined to improve efficiency and stem future increases. Republican leadership recognizes that you can manage spending, growth and change without punishing our overburdened taxpayers.
When you run a household, and you decide to irresponsibly increase your spending, you can not automatically turn to your employer and demand a raise. This is a recipe for the unemployment line, and a pink slip. In fact, a pink slip would be the right idea for a Governor who used Republican principles of self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and investment to improve his own life, but magically transforms into a tax and tax again politician when given the opportunity to govern. New Jersey deserves better.
Thankfully, in Monmouth County we have leaders and public servants in the Monmouth County Republican legislative delegation, a great Board of Republican Freeholders, and competent, outstanding Republican candidates on all levels of office who understand this. It is more important than ever that we come together and elect Rosemarie Peters, Andrew Lucas and Freeholder Anna Little this November.

Monmouth County Tea Party for Tax Independence - July 4th!

A "Wireside" Chat from Chairman Adam Puharic

Join PETERS, LUCAS, and LITTLE for the Monmouth County Tea Party for Tax Independence on July 4th!

My fellow Republicans:
I wish you, your loved ones, and every citizen a joyous Independence Day in celebration of the greatest country in the world! On July 4th, we will celebrate the founding of America, which was the result of a few brave citizens standing up to say NO to unjust taxation. Once again, an out-of-touch elite ruler (king Corzine?) is threatening our great Monmouth County way of life with a senseless budget that raises taxes at a time we can least afford.
On July 4th, 2006, at 2pm, Monmouth County Republicans will gather at the boardwalk outside the Ocean Place resort in Long Branch to recreate the “Boston Tea Party.” Let’s send a strong message to the tax and spend Democrats in Trenton. Join us for the Monmouth County Tea Party 2006, calling attention to the unfair Corzine budget and its harsh punishment on Monmouth County taxpayers.
We wont be dumping tea into the ocean because we want to keep our great Monmouth County beaches pristine. Instead, we’ll offer a cool break to taxpayers with free iced tea.
Our great candidates, Rosemarie Peters for Surrogate, Andrew Lucas for Freeholder, and Freeholder Anna Little, know just how bad this Corzine tax and tax again budget is for the people of Monmouth County. Increasing the sales tax will result in lost jobs and more pain for the most taxed state in America. Monmouth Medical Center stands to lose $1.8 million. Brookdale Community College will lose close to $2 million. In a year where balancing the budget would be hard work by any measure, Corzine is raising spending.
Please join as at the Monmouth County Tea Party 2006, 2pm on July 4th, at the Boardwalk of Long Branch. Please RSVP to (732) 431-6664. Once again, enjoy your 4th of July, and please remember our brave armed forces who every day keep this nation a shining city on the hill – a beacon of truth and freedom for the whole world.
